Are you talking about home storage? I think a good option is to buy two 8Tb disks and put them in a raid 1. If one of the drives fails, you can replace it without losing data. But you should still monitor disk health indicators. Two discs will cost about $200

What software do you use for general data hoarding management? I would imagine something better than the stock file manager, and TeraCopy or similar? Do you use Crystal Disk Info? I'm OK with some retail software that contributes to data integrity

Also about file management and viewers - I don’t use them. Therefore, I can’t give you any advice.

I wrote a site, something like a gallery with tags and search, where before adding content, files are checked by hash (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perceptual_hashing) to keep track of all similar pictures and videos.
