PART 1
As an Australian, I can't help but find it cute how many American artists on Pixiv start feeling the need to translate everything into Japanese because "oh we're on a Japanese site, better start speaking Japanese as to not offend the Japanese", even though you have artists from the rest of the Anglophone world (e.g. Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand etc.) or sometimes Europe who just casually use English not out of local bias but because English is the world's most widely spoken language (and I'm not just referring to L1 speakers either). It's like American artists look at sites that happen to be based in the US and go "Speak the language of the website, if it's American then speak English, if it's in a different country then speak their language", all the while they have no idea that just almost everyone outside the US views the biggest websites (which all happened to be US based sites) like an international space (like the internet in general) and use English because again, it's the world's most widely spoken language and it's the most popular one to learn. It's only natural for them to carry that logic to Pixiv as Japanese has far fewer speakers even when accounting for those who use it as a second/third (etc) language.

PART 2/2
Plus, Pixiv isn't truly a "Japanese language only" site as some may believe as it's also displayed in Korean, Chinese, and yes, English (though the character limit for comments still remains the same despite requiring more characters than typical East Asian writing systems).

>"But we don't want to look like the Griswolds"

You're on the internet, you're not visiting a different country dipshit. Then again, would you use French on XVideos?

If anything, refusing to use English can actually be detrimental and alienate audiences as only 126 million people are able to speak Japanese (about 99% of whom are only from Japan) while 1.5 billion people from around the world are able to speak English. Burn all the bridges you want, but think twice before burning your most reliable bridge to the world.

And for those who really are that concerned, you could perhaps use both as a compromise. That way you can reach out to even more people than you would with English alone.

And before anyone mentions Mandarin Chinese, NO that's the world's most spoken NATIVE language. This is more about the total number of speakers regardless of whether it's someone's first language or not.

BTW no racism, there's enough edgelord degeneracy on Kemonochan as it is (nevermind that "species" comment I saw earlier, goddammit man).

Anon, when in Rome… Are you seriously going to riot if you get ASN-banned from a Chinese website for speaking English there?
